Trip Overview

Sherpani Col Trek via Makalu Base Camp

The Sherpani Col Pass Trek is an extraordinary high-altitude adventure in the remote Makalu region of eastern Nepal. Renowned as one of the most challenging trekking and mountaineering expeditions in the Himalayas, this journey takes adventurers through spectacular mountain landscapes, remote valleys, glaciers and some of Nepal's most demanding high mountain passes.

The expedition follows a remarkable route through Makalu Barun National Park gradually ascending from traditional mountain villages and beautiful forest trails toward the remote wilderness surrounding Makalu Base Camp. As the journey progresses the landscape transforms into a dramatic alpine environment of rocky terrain, snow-covered mountains, glacial valleys and enormous ice formations.

One of the major attractions of this expedition is crossing Sherpani Col (6,150 m) a demanding high-altitude pass that connects the Makalu region with the Barun Valley. The adventure also involves challenging mountain terrain and the surrounding high passes, including West Col and Amphu Laptsa, depending on the expedition route and conditions.

With spectacular views of Mount Makalu, Baruntse, Everest and other Himalayan giants, the Sherpani Col Pass Trek offers an unforgettable experience for experienced trekkers and mountaineers looking for a serious Himalayan challenge.

The Sherpani Col Pass Trek combines remote wilderness trekking with technical mountaineering challenges. The journey begins in the lower foothills of eastern Nepal, where green forests, terraced hillsides, rivers and traditional villages create a beautiful introduction to the adventure.

As you trek deeper into Makalu Barun National Park, the trails become increasingly remote and the surrounding mountains grow more impressive. Passing through settlements such as Seduwa and Tashi Gaon, the route gradually climbs toward the alpine landscapes of Khongma Danda and the Shipton La area.

The adventure continues through beautiful mountain valleys toward Makalu Base Camp, where spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks provide an unforgettable reward.

Beyond Makalu Base Camp, the expedition becomes more demanding. Glacier crossings, steep snow-covered slopes, high-altitude camps and technical sections require careful preparation and experienced mountain support. Crossing Sherpani Col is one of the most challenging and memorable parts of the entire expedition.

The journey eventually continues toward the Baruntse region and Amphu Laptsa before descending toward the popular Everest trekking route and Lukla.
