Summit Time: 3:15 AM (Nepal Time)
Everest Summiters – Spring 2026:
After weeks of disciplined training, strategic preparation, and vital acclimatization through Lobuche East Peak (6,119 m), the team successfully stood on top of the world, a defining milestone not only for these climbers but also for the Irish mountaineering community and the entire 8K Expeditions family.
This summit is a powerful reflection of courage, teamwork, resilience, and the strong bond between Ireland and Nepal in the high Himalayas.
A 22-year-old becomes the youngest Irishman to summit Everest (8,848.86 m)
Adam Sweeney, 22, from Dunmore East, Co. Waterford, made history as the youngest Irish person ever to summit Mount Everest, breaking the previous record held by a 26-year-old. The expedition took 47 days and was fraught with uncertainty due to an unprecedented ice obstruction, but Adam's sheer determination earned him his place in history. He is also now the first person from Waterford to ever stand atop the world's highest mountain.
The leader who gave everything but the summit
Mr. Jason Black had set out chasing his second Everest summit, having first reached the top in 2013. A severe ankle injury forced him to step back from his own summit bid, but never from his team. He led from below, directing and supporting every step his climbers took toward the top. From base camp, he announced: "This success belongs to the climbers, their families, our incredible Sherpa team, and everyone who followed and supported this journey." True leadership is putting the mission above yourself, and Jason Black did exactly that.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire summit team and our deepest gratitude to the dedicated Sherpa team whose unmatched strength, experience and commitment made this historic achievement possible.
“The summit of Everest is never given it is earned.”
The team is now safely descending toward the lower camps. We wish everyone a safe and successful return to Base Camp.
The summit is only halfway, a safe descent is the true success of every expedition.
