Trip Overview

Upper Mustang, popularly known as "The Last Forbidden Kingdom" or once called “The Kingdom of Lo” is an exquisite destination for those who dream of trekking in the treeless landscape below 5000 meters.  This magnificent place lies in the northern part of the Mustang district of Nepal elevating to 3,840m, which presents some sensational sights of Annapurna, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and many more mountains.

The Upper Mustang was a prohibited site and was named "The Last Forbidden Kingdom" till 1992 marking one of the most preserved places in the world. Traditionally, the place is rich in Tibetan culture, language, history, caves, and rock paintings. One shall be truly astonished by one of the last northwest areas, Lo-Manthang municipality which depicts a massive history of Buddhism. Some of the must-visit sites are Chode Gompa, Choprang Gompa, The Royal Palace, and The Monastic Museum where we can be enlightened about the ancient art of healing.

Trek to the Upper Mustang region is considered to be moderate in terms of its altitude as trekkers can enjoy the sites with a steady hike which aids in comforting higher altitude problems. This rural trans-Himalayan Region trek offers a mesmerizing trekking route with perfectly trodden paths encountering semi-deserts and artistic rock formation. The place serves itself as a testimonial history of a legendary king, Lo, and some significant events from the 8th century.

Best Season to visit Upper Mustang

The most favorable season to visit the Upper Mustang is the monsoon (June to September) because it lies in a rain shadow region of the Himalayas. However, we would be delighted to organize trips for you during any season that is favorable for you.
