China Dingfeng Team Summits Lhotse (8,516m) After Everest – Historic Back-to-Back 8000m Success In Spring 2026

In a historic back-to-back achievement that will be remembered in the annals of Himalayan mountaineering, the China Dingfeng Team, operating under 8K Expeditions and led by Lakpa Sherpa, has successfully summited Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), the world's fourth-highest mountain, in the early hours of May 22, 2026. This triumph came just two days after the same team stood on top of Mt. Everest (8,849m) on May 20, 2026, making it one of the most remarkable double-summit achievements of the 2026 spring climbing season. We are incredibly proud of the entire team for this historic back-to-back achievement.

Lhotse Summit 2026: A Historic Double Achievement

The 2026 spring season has already produced extraordinary stories from the Himalayas, but the China Dingfeng Team's consecutive ascents of the two highest peaks in the world have set a new benchmark for high-altitude performance. Summiting Everest and Lhotse within 48 hours is not a casual feat it demands extraordinary physical endurance, mental fortitude, a precise acclimatization strategy, and an experienced, unified team operating at the absolute limits of human capability.

Meet the Lhotse 2026 summiteers:

Nine climbers stood on the summit of Lhotse on May 22, 2026. Here is the full list of summit success:

Mr. Pema Chhiring Sherpa (the only IFMGA-certified mountain guide in history to summit Mt. Everest 25 times, a world record achievement in itself)
Mr. Dawa Ongju Sherpa
Mr. Tian Yungui
Ms. Zhang Xuchai
Ms. Zhao Meilin
Mr. Fu Jiaming
Mr. Mingma Dorchee Sherpa
Mr. Dawa Nurbu Sherpa
Mr. Nang Tenzi Sherpa

Among the summiteers, the presence of two female climbers, Ms. Zhang Xuchai and Ms. Zhao Meilin, adds another inspiring dimension to this achievement, demonstrating that elite high-altitude mountaineering continues to open its doors wider to women athletes from across the globe.

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our entire climbing guides, Sherpa team, and all members involved in this expedition for their outstanding dedication, teamwork, and success in achieving this historic milestone.

Pema Chhiring Sherpa: 25 Everest Summits and Counting

No mention of this expedition would be complete without highlighting the extraordinary career of Mr. Pema Chhiring Sherpa. With his Lhotse summit on May 22, he adds another 8,000 m peak to a resume that already includes 25 ascents of Mount Everest, a record unmatched by any other IFMGA-certified guide in the world. His presence on this expedition was not merely symbolic; as a high-altitude guide, his expertise, route knowledge, and leadership on the mountain played a critical role in getting every team member to the summit safely.

About Mt. Lhotse: The World's Fourth-Highest Peak

Standing at 8,516 meters (27,940 feet) above sea level, Mt. Lhotse is located on the border of Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, directly south of Everest and connected to it via the South Col. Its name means "South Peak" in Tibetan, and it shares the lower part of its standard climbing route with the Everest South Col route before diverging sharply up the steep Lhotse Face, a near-vertical wall of ice and rock that has earned its reputation as one of the most technically demanding sections in Himalayan climbing.
