8K Expeditions Supports the 3rd Edition Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Lead Climbing Competition 2026

 

8K Expeditions Pvt. Ltd. proudly supported the 3rd Edition of the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Lead Climbing Competition as a Gold Supporter, contributing NRP 120,000 towards the event, held in Kathmandu in May 2026. Organized jointly by the Nepal National Mountaineering Guides Association and the US Nepal Climbers Association Inc., the competition was held to commemorate the first successful ascent of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953, and to honor the enduring legacy of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary. 

 

This edition marked a historic first by introducing the lead climbing category, with twelve finalists,  six men and six women, including one international athlete competing at the highest level. 

 

8K Expeditions extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants. In the Men's Category, Ronak Upreti claimed the top spot, followed by Mirko Leros as the 1st runner-up and Tenzing Bertin Rai as the 2nd runner-up. In the Women's Category, Swastika Chaudhary won the gold, with Yankeela Sherpa finishing as 1st Runner-Up and Panchamaya Tamang as 2nd Runner-Up.

 

8K Expeditions' directors Mr. Lakpa Sherpa, Mr. Pemba Sherpa, and Mr. Lakpa Thendu Sherpa, themselves proud members of the Sherpa community, believe that honoring the legacy of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa goes beyond the mountains. Supporting events like this is a reflection of that belief.
