Trip Overview

Mt Everest Expedition via North Face is an extremely rewarding adventure that takes you to the Top of the World via the Northside which lies in Tibet. While the reward is high, it is very challenging and technical as well. While climbing Mt Everest from the Northside is equally exciting as from the south side, the risk of icefall and avalanches are quite less on the Northern side. Compared to the south side, the north side of Everest receives fewer climbers probably because of the permits required from the Chinese Government.

Mt Everest Summit was scaled from the Northside for the first time in 1960 by Qu Yin Hai, Wang Fu Zhou, and Nawang Gombu. However, multiple attempts had already been made in the earlier years but no one actually made it to the summit before them.

Unlike the expedition via South ridge where climbers trek for a number of days to reach the base camp, we will drive to the base camp at 5200 m during the Everest Expedition from the Northside. But we will allocate enough time to acclimatize before aiming for the higher altitude. We will spend our days in Kerung, Tingri towns where we will explore the local culture, traditions, and lifestyle of the Tibetan community.

The best season to go on the expedition to Everest is between March to May when winds are calmer, the days are sunny, the weather is mild and the overall journey becomes astoundingly exciting.

While Everest Expedition is a strenuous journey, it does involve risks but proper preparation and training will be very handy. The 8K Expedition team makes sure that every climber knows and understands the elements of the expedition by briefing them thoroughly and helping them get acquainted with all essential gears and equipment including but not limited to crampons, ice axes, bottled oxygen, fixed lines, and others. You must also keep in mind the following tips:

    • The expedition is tough but highly rewarding as well. So, prepare yourself psychologically and physically to withstand all possible hazards that may come across your path during the journey. Mental stability and confidence play a huge role in boosting you up even at the worst phase. Your communication will be crucial during these times. So, always talk to each other, say how you are feeling and ask the same to others.

    • The expedition is challenging but worthy. We will train you very well to be in the Himalayas by providing you with all technical know-how and techniques. We will have enough time at the Base Camp to let you prepare yourself before the ascent.

    • The summit lies at a higher altitude and can cause altitude sickness but proper acclimatization and enough oxygen will help you go through. We will always have extra bottles of oxygen in case of emergencies. This is why one must go on an expedition to any of the 7 thousand before heading to Everest. This will not only help you gain experience in the high altitude but also familiarize you with all the gears and equipment while handling extremely cold temperatures, gaining great cramponing skills on and off the rock, snow, ice, rappelling with a pack on, and using ascenders and jumars on a fixed-line. Along with tolerance at a high altitude, you need strength, endurance, and strong cardiovascular conditioning.

NOTE: Prioritize your training efforts with the following techniques assuming you are in good health and injury-free.

    • Climbing Conditioning: Uphill climbing with a backpack, walking and staircase climbing
    • Strength training for lower body and core
    • Cardiovascular Training: Include both aerobic and anaerobic workouts with and without pack weight
    • Flexibility Training: include Stretches for overall body
